In our Autumn term Intermediate Dressmaking Weekend we'll be making the Miller (women) or Billy (men) waistcoat both by Merchant & Mills (available in UK sizes 6-28, UK 34-54), the perfect garment to undertake before you make yourself a coat as it incorporates similar skills on a smaller scale.
-
A waistcoat is the perfect garment to undertake before you make a coat, as it uses similar skills on a smaller scale; buttonholes, pockets and linings.
-
This sewing class is aimed at the dressmaker looking to expand and advance their dressmaking skills - you must already have experience in making clothing and be proficient in the use of a sewing machine.

What you will learn on the Intermediate Dressmaking Weekend
-
how to choose your pattern size
-
advice on choosing the best fabric for this type of project
-
button holes; by hand, machine or bound
-
welt pockets for Miller and patch pockets for Billy
-
sewing a lining
On the first day, we will have a chance to discuss sizing before you begin tracing your waistcoat, and get help with any modifications that might crop up. Then you will move onto cutting your fabric, before we begin sewing in the afternoon.

The second day, will be a full day of sewing, with technical demonstrations and discussions.

The pace of the Intermediate Dressmaking sewing class is relaxed due to the fact we have the whole weekend, so there is plenty of time for personal fitting and support for each student.
Spaces are limited to 6 participants per class to provide the ultimate learning experience.

What previous students have to say...

"Camille is my favourite kind of teacher - funny, kind and relaxed, knowledgeable and experienced but unassuming! It feels good at the end of class to have changed into 'someone who can now sew'!"
— Lowri

"The weekend exceeded my expectations. The group was a good size, with a mix of people with different skills, but nobody who was super proficient, which made me feel less self conscious about not understanding the pattern or sewing terms."
— Leigh
