Beginners Dressmaking Weekend
Date: Not Currently Running
Location: West Wales, SA38 9BS
Time: 10am - 4:30pm each day
Price: £278 (payment plan available)
-
In our Autumn term Beginners Dressmaking Weekend we'll be making the The Fielder (top or dress) or The Tee Shirt (t-shirt or dress, men & women) both by Merchant & Mills (available in UK sizes 6-28).
-
This is the ideal class for those looking to begin making their own clothing, as lots of techniques will be covered - just see what our previous students have to say about our Beginners Dressmaking Weekends.
-
All levels are welcome but is ideal if you have already mastered the basics of using a sewing machine - a perfect class to take after the Beginners Sewing Class, or equally for a more intermediate sewist who wants a gently paced dressmaking course.
What you will learn on the Beginners Dressmaking Weekend
-
how to choose your pattern size
-
advice on choosing fabric
-
how to trace a pattern and make simple fit adjustments
-
how to sew raglan sleeves
-
how to bind a neckline
-
how to hem a garment
-
in-seam side pocket (dress only)
On the first day, you will learn why it's important to take your own measurements when using a dressmaking pattern, and learn about the strategies involved when picking the best size. There will be room to discuss simple style adjustments such as length, before we dedicate the afternoon to cutting your fabric and preparing to sew your garment.

On the second day, you can fully immerse yourself in making your garment. You will master how to create beautiful darts, sew raglan sleeves, hem and learn to bind the neckline for a neat finish.

The pace of the Beginners Dressmaking class is relaxed due to the fact we have the whole weekend, so there is plenty of time for personal fitting and support for each student.
Spaces are limited to 6 participants per class to provide the ultimate learning experience.
What previous students have to say...
"Camille is my favourite kind of teacher - funny, kind and relaxed, knowledgeable and experienced but unassuming! It feels good at the end of class to have changed into 'someone who can now sew'!"
— Lowri
"The weekend exceeded my expectations. The group was a good size, with a mix of people with different skills, but nobody who was super proficient, which made me feel less self conscious about not understanding the pattern or sewing terms."
— Leigh
